ABOUT US

Design Philosophy

The primary focus of my architectural practice is residential design, with the goal of instilling quality and substance in the basic concepts as well as the smallest details.

An experiential sequencing of living spaces that creates a balance of drama and tranquility is essential in achieving this goal.

Our constant endeavor is to create beauty with an interpretation unique to the needs and dreams of our clients.

Background

Michael D Heckmann founded his Tiburon architecture firm in 1998 and is licensed in California. Michael endeavors to provide unique, innovative design solutions with the objective of incorporating details into compositions that convey quality and substance. His continuing appreciation of the architectural process is constantly energized by the collaborative dynamic he maintains between clients, project consultants and contractors.

Michael has been a member of the American Institute of Architects since 1996. Showing a commitment to professional advocacy, he previously served his local community as a member of two local boards and commissions. He served for five years on the Tiburon Design Review Board (known at that time as the Board of Adjustments and Review) and served for two years on the Tiburon Planning Commission. He has also furthered his involvement in community service as a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Tiburon-Belvedere.

Prior to establishing Heckmann Architects, Michael’s professional experience included work with the San Francisco architectural firm of Sandy and Babcock and the award-winning firm of Warren Callister. After a number of years in Mr. Callister’s Tiburon studio with partners David Gately and Jim Bischoff, Michael became a firm partner in 1988 until his departure to establish his own firm.
